Glossary of Bra Styles
 

Bralette – An unlined soft cup bra, the style is more cropped, used as a teen bra or sleepwear.

Bust Enhancers – A bra that gives the illusion of a fuller look.

Bust Minimizers – A bra that gives the appearance of a reduced cup, either by lifting or redistributing the breast tissue.

Comfort Straps – Padded or lined, wider than normal straps to increase the comfort for the fuller busted.

Contour – A molded or cut and sewn bra, designed with fiberfill or foam lining that provides a defined shape, a thicker fabric for no nipple show-through.

Demi Cup – An underwire bra with the cups partially cut away to expose the tops of the breast.

Front Closure – This style fastens in the front, the down side is the band is not adjustable.

Full Cup – This style covers most of the breast, offering support and coverage for a full figure.

Molded – A process in which a piece of fabric is heat-molded to form the cup shape, ideal to wear under t-shirts.

Padded – Padding added to the cups for added fullness, can be a crescent shape that can be removed, which depends on the bra.

Plunge – A very low v-shape plunge with angled cups.

Push-up – Giving the appearance of a fuller bust, push-up bras with an underwire lift and emphasize the bust.

Racerback- The bra is designed to curve away from the shoulders, great with shirts that may show your straps.

Seamless – Similar construction as a molded bra.

Shelf Bra – A bra that is built into the garment.

Sports Bra – Sports bras are designed to protect the chest ligaments and prevent breast tissue damage. Compression styles are best for small cup sizes; large cup sizes encapsulate each breast.

Strapless – A bra without shoulder straps which come in many styles; underwire, seamless, push-up or padded. The bra can be lined with silicone or rubber to hold the bra in place.

T-Shirt Bra – Designed to appear invisible under form fitted clothing, a t-shirt bra is always seamless, and has contour cups, usually no lace or ornamentation.

Triangle Bra – Triangle shaped cups, perfect for the petite figure.

Wireless – A bra without a wire that provides light support, ideal for the smaller or firmer busted.

Babydoll – Very similar to a chemise, made of flowing contoured fabric, usually short in style.

Bustier – A corset style garment which can be designed to lace up in back, or zip on the side, can be with straps or strapless, some have styles with garters for hosiery to attach.

Camisole – A sleeveless top that can be worn under clothing or as outerwear depending upon the design and style.

Chemise – A loose fitting short gown, with thin straps, can be worn as a slip under clothing or as sleepwear.

Negligee – Most often purchased in a “set”. The French expression for a long gorgeous gown adorned with lace, which accompanies a matching robe.

Pajamas – Loose fitting top and bottom set.

Peignoir – A long gorgeous robe often sheer that accompanies a gown that matches.

Teddy – A camisole and panty combined as one, can be fitted or loose and worn under a garment or as sleepwear.

Glossary of Panty Styles

Bikini - The waistband rest below the belly button and hips. Sometimes high-cut, back coverage depends on style.

Boyshort - A similar style in shape to boy's underwear, much cuter, often low-rise, and with wide sides that hug your hips.

Brazilian - A panty that covers more of the cheeks than a thong.

Brief - A panty whose waistband rests below the belly button, has full back coverage and may also be a high-cut brief.

French Knickers - A panty with wider sides and less fabric for a cheeky look.

G-String - Much less coverage than a thong, smaller panel in front with a string in the back and around the sides.

Laser-cut / Seamless - A panty that has laser cuts to avoid bulk and elastic, a great smooth look.

Low-rise Hipster - A panty that sits below the hips.

Tanga - A panty that falls between a bikini and a thong, providing moderate to minimal coverage over the cheeks.

Tap Pant - A playful short often made of silk, lace or satin.

Thong - A style that leaves the buttocks exposed with no panty lines.  Has more fabric than a G-string.
